First of all can I just say how much I appreciate you taking time out of your day to check out my little website - it really does mean the world to me.
So here goes - I that have had a lifelong passion for all things 'Book' related. As an 8 year old kid I remember going to my local library and handing my card over to the librarian as I took out various storybooks. These took me to far away places and told me about the lives of people that I would never know. At Christmas and birthdays I would collect any money I was given and head off into town to buy my own books. That love of escapism I found in those stories has never left me.
Over the years I moved more towards the Fantasy and Science Fiction genres. I think I was 13 when I first read Lord Of The Rings, I spoke about it with my friends at school once but I was greeted with howls of derision and so never raised the subject again. It became my little secret, even through university I kept it hidden. I was once caught reading a copy of Douglas Adam's Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy whilst in a rather boring Geography lecture - fortunately it was by a fellow student (and yes I dropped Geography).
It was the mid 80's when I discovered Sir Terry Pratchett and he rapidly rose to be my favourite author. I even became confident enough to mention his work in social circles. There were no sarcastic remarks, no one told me to grow up because there's no such thing as magic! It turns out there were plenty of people who enjoyed the same kind of books that I did. It was also at this time that I started really dabbling in writing. As a child I had always written short stories - I once won a prize from the local newspaper - but they were childish fancies as far as I was concerned. It wasn't until the late 80's that I felt confident enough to tackle the big one and write a novel. I wrote 4 chapters and even passed it around to friends for their opinions. They loved it, although one did say that there were too many jokes in it and that I might need to spread them out a bit more.
Anyway, long story short, it took me 35 years to finish it - life had this nasty habit of getting in the way - and that brings me forward to today. In the last 10 months I have written 4 novels within the Fantasy and Science Fiction genres. Like the majority of writers I am never 100% satisfied with my work, every read through causes much anxiety. It's my reason for delaying publishing said novels and I'm sticking to it!
So there you have it - A Brief History Of Time - well mine anyway! And I leave you now to return to writing the kind of stories that I want to read (and hopefully one's that you do too).
Take Care and Stay Safe.
